If you know anything about me (or simply picked up a copy of My Wetumpka), you’d know I hold a great affinity for Downtown Wetumpka. My childhood is framed by its places. One of the most iconic images of Wetumpka is the Bibb Graves Bridge, which has become a striking symbol of the community’s connectivity. It also serves as the backdrop to one of the most popular spots in the area. From the day tripper stopping to explore to the hometown folks enjoying a sit-down at the coffee shop, our community connects and invites all to experience the one-of-a-kind downtown Wetumpka.
With beautifully ornate and well-preserved buildings, some antebellum, the town’s historic district includes a revitalized business district, culturally rich churches and magnificently preserved homes, all part of an area listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Downtown also been the site of several feature films, including The Grass Harp, The Rosa Parks Story, Big Fish, and, most recently, became the focus of HGTV’s premiere season of Home Town Takeover!
